Hike at Shoveler's Gorge in Cross Plains - Dane County
Join us for a wonderful morning hike led by Gary Werner. Although geologically related and separated by no more than a mile, Shoveler Sink and the gorge at the reserve are two separate places.  No one interested in the origin of the Black Earth Creek valley, early spring wildflowers and an off-trail trip into the narrow defile of the gorge should miss this tour. To get to the trail head in the Cross Plains Ice Age Reserve, Take Old Sauk Rd exit west from Beltline for ~ 4 miles to end.  Right on Timber Lane, which turns 90º left and then becomes Old Sauk Pass.  Go another .5 miles west and park near entrance gate at the top of the hill.   Statewide trail-building event, Polk County, northwestern Wisconsin
Ice Age Trail volunteers from near and far will be gathering at the following statewide trail-building event. We'd be thrilled to see you there!

Straight Lake Segment, Polk County
Ice Age Trail Atlas Map 3f (click here to see a project area map)

The new Straight Lake Segment that we started in 2009 is destined to become a signature experience for Ice Age National Scenic Trail users. For this event, our usual strong effort will receive a boost from AmeriCorps workers and Volunteer Vacationers from the American Hiking Society.

Come on out for all or any part of the event...whatever amount of time your schedule permits is valuable to us. We'll feed you and, if you are interested in helping for multiple days, provide a place to camp close to the work site.

Participants interested in trail building will receive hands-on training in advanced trail construction techniques by volunteer crew leaders as part of our Mobile Skills Crew program. No experience is necessary! If trail building isn't your cup of tea, we have plenty of other roles for you, including volunteer support and event publicity.

Please click here for pre-registration and project details. Pre-registration is key to helping us plan the project with your needs in mind.

Give us a call (800-227-0046) or send us an email (info@iceagetrail.org) with any additional questions about the project.
