Tugasuckle Continues!  After several years of working with Steffen Middle School, we have a new partner for this annual event, Slinger High School.  We will need 5-6 adult volunteers to lead our ambitious crews as they chop, wrestle and "tug" out invasive honeysuckle from Pike Lake State Park.  It is MUCH more fun than it sounds!  No experience necessary.  On the job training provided.

Meet at the State Park's beach picnic area parking lot on Kettle Moraine Drive.  Bring gloves, long sleved shirt, water and heavy footwear.  Please RSVP with Rod Bartlow at bartlowr@gmail.com prior to the event.

Ice Age Trail Alliance's Annual Conference and Membership Meeting
We are pleased to announce that our 2010 Annual Conference and Membership Meeting will take place April 22nd–25th, 2010 in Janesville, Wisconsin. This area has been “on our radar” to host our Annual Conference for some time. The local Rock County Chapter has expressed great enthusiasm at the opportunity to host the event and showcase some beautiful sections of the Ice Age Trail in southern Wisconsin.

The host facility will be the Janesville Rotary Botanical Gardens. They have a wonderful conference facility and beautiful grounds that will serve as a great host site for the four days we will be in Janesville.

Additional information regarding lodging, camping and dorm facilities will be made available in late 2009 at www.iceagetrail.org and in Mammoth Tales.
Fri - Apr 23 -- Sun - Apr 25

This will be the BIGGEST workday of the spring.  We will need a lot of motivated volunteers to knock this project out as we will work well into the afternoon.

Meet at the Station Way Road's parking lot just east 1/4 mile east of Carmel Road off of Hwy 167.  We will continue our work from 2009 on our re-route project to eliminate 21 stairs and to rehab several other sections of old, rutted trail into MSC standard trail.  Bring gloves, long sleved shirt and heavy footwear.  Construction will include a long rock mono wall and lots of 4 step construction.  The Chapter will bring in food for lunch and plan for other surprises!

Camping available at Pike Lake State Park about 5 miles from our worksite.  Sites can be reserved via the DNR's website.

Statewide trail-building event, Polk County, northwestern Wisconsin
Ice Age Trail volunteers from near and far will be gathering at the following statewide trail-building event. We'd be thrilled to see you there!

Straight Lake Segment, Polk County
Ice Age Trail Atlas Map 3f (click here to see a project area map)

The new Straight Lake Segment that we started in 2009 is destined to become a signature experience for Ice Age National Scenic Trail users. For this event, our usual strong effort will receive a boost from AmeriCorps workers and Volunteer Vacationers from the American Hiking Society.

Come on out for all or any part of the event...whatever amount of time your schedule permits is valuable to us. We'll feed you and, if you are interested in helping for multiple days, provide a place to camp close to the work site.

Participants interested in trail building will receive hands-on training in advanced trail construction techniques by volunteer crew leaders as part of our Mobile Skills Crew program. No experience is necessary! If trail building isn't your cup of tea, we have plenty of other roles for you, including volunteer support and event publicity.

Please click here for pre-registration and project details. Pre-registration is key to helping us plan the project with your needs in mind.

Give us a call (800-227-0046) or send us an email (info@iceagetrail.org) with any additional questions about the project.

  Washington Co. Workday
Tentative Workday (check with the Chapter contact to confirm that this project is a "go") - Meet at the DNR's parking lot on Shannon Road, 1/2 mile east of Hwy K.  We will begin to corridor clear for our main project for 2010;  the exciting reconnection of the North and South Holy Hill segments.  This will eliminate almost 1.5 miles of busy road walk.  Work available for volunteers of all ages and abilities.  Work will most likely involve cutting of branches and removal of debris from our future worksite.  We'll also be developing our plans for our major workdays over the weekend of August 27-29.  Bring gloves, long sleved shirt and heavy footwear.
Mon - May 24
7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
  Washington Co. Chapter Moonlight Hike
Kewaskum Segment - Hike 2.2 miles one way.  Meet at the IAT parking lot on Ridge Road near Sunburst Ski Hill.  Shuttle to Hwy H and Hwy 45 and hike back to the parking lot.  Hike is rated easy to moderate due to several hills.  Bring along a flashlight because the woods get dark as the sun goes down and the moon comes up!
