Waukesha/Milwaukee County Chapter

WAUKESHA COUNTY
The Ice Age Trail is in the Kettle Moraine through most of Waukesha County, occasionally varying to the west onto outwash plain and small areas of exposed dolomite (similar to limestone). The Trail crosses major glacial meltwater drainageways near the villages of Wales and Hartland.

The Trail passes through the City of Delafield and Village of Hartland and over Lapham Peak. Vegetation of the county includes oak forest, oak opening, and wet and dry prairie. Seasonal wildflowers punctuate all of these areas. Larger blocks of public land can be found at Monches County Park, the Hartland Wetland Preserve, Lapham Peak State Forest and Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest.
