Dane Liebetrau Prairie Weeding, Town of Berry

June 17, 2017 @ 9:00 am

Our first prairie weeding workday of the summer is at a site soon to see trail after more than 15 years of restoration and care.  (Liebetrau map/directions.)  Our restored prairies and savannas require much attention, especially in their early years, to rid them of wild parsnip, yellow and white sweet clover, burdock, mullein, curly dock, Japanese hedge parsley and other invading exotics.  There may be some infestations suitable for power brushcutters as well as hand work.   The likely targets this early in the season are yellow sweet clover and burdock.  Bring sturdy boots or shoes, long-sleeved shirt, long pants, gloves, brimmed hat, water, sun screen and insect repellant (for chiggers and perhaps mosquitoes).  If operating power equipment, bring eye and ear protection as well.
