Dane Savanna Weeding, Lodi Marsh SNA

August 5, 2017 @ 9:00 am

We are now in the home stretch of the summer prairie weeding season.  We have cleaned most of our prairies of yellow and white sweet clover, parsnip, curly dock and burdock, Japanese hedge parsley, and mullein.  At this site we will  cut and herbicide autumn olive, honeysuckle, buckthorn, and sumac as well as herbaceous weeds.  We will cut shrubs and pull weeds in the goat prairie on the west ridge goat prairie.  We’ll also remove Japanese hedge parsley from the oak savannas of Center Bluff.   Meet at the kiosk lot on Lodi Springfield Rd.  (map, directions). From there we may use several vehicles to haul equipment and people closer to the work sites  We will use brush cutters, parsnip predators, and loppers.  If you have a brush cutter or hand clippers, please bring along.  Sturdy boots with good traction are a must on the steep west ridge slope; microspikes may be helpful. The weather is predicted to be delightfully cooler but do bring plenty of water, a hat for sun protection, a long sleeve shirt for protection from parsnip juice and raspberry thorns, insect repellant and work gloves.
