New 'Tales from the Trail' Episode Features Ice Age Trail
Tales from the Trail is a show on hiking, backpacking, and trails. We're pretty excited that they've created an entire episode on our very own Ice Age National Scenic Trail. Watch it right here on our video page, and if you like, check out their YouTube channel or their Facebook page.
Mobile Skills Crew Event Registration Open!
Behold. All of the statewide trail building projects for this year are now open for registration. Click here to see them.
Yes, the dates were posted already. But go back there now, and you'll see that you can now sign up. Also, we've added some tantalizing details about each project, like:
"Gorgeous campsite at Kathryn Lake will be a big attraction."
"If you’ve never been in the mighty Baraboo Range at the peak of the fall colors, this is the time to see it."
"...and yes, you’re reading this correctly, there’s over 1,000 feet of boardwalk to build!"
Read a bit about each event and then, if you like, follow the link to register. (Why register? If you know you'll be there, registering well in advance helps the IATA plan events with your needs in mind. Plus, it's also good for you, because you'll get a confirmation email just before the event with any last-minute info you should know.)
2012 Trail Building Dates and Locations Announced
Save room in your outdoor adventure schedule for the Ice Age Trail! Eight Mobile Skills Crew weekends are planned for the 2012 trail building season, at least one project every month from April through October. Ice Age Trail enthusiasts come together during these fun events to build the Trail and enjoy each other's company. Last year, volunteers helped us build 20 miles of trail. Let's keep it going in 2012!
Head over to http://mobileskills.iceagetrail.org/mobile-skills-crew-calendar to see the slate of events.

IATA Trail Stewardship Notebook Now Available Online
Thanks to a generous grant from REI, the Ice Age Trail Alliance has published the second in a series of Trail Notebooks, handy reference guides for volunteers and leaders doing on-the-ground work for the Ice Age Trail.
The Trail Stewardship Notebook is a handbook for trail maintainers, work project leaders, and armchair enthusiasts. It lays out best practices for everything from long-term planning to invasive species removal.
This guide is unique in its field because of its “Trail-outward” approach to land stewardship. We hope it will be a rich resource for all who care for the Trail and the land through which it passes.
The Trail Stewardship Notebook were distributed at IATA Regional Meetings in October and November, but you can download the PDF now at http://www.iceagetrail.org/resources-for-iata-leaders, under the Trail Construction and Maintenance category.
