Twilight Trail Run: Headlamp Hustle

Headlamp Hustle Fontana Sports

If your idea of a good time is a twilight trail run with a headlamp, then we have the race for you!

Fontana Sports Headlamp Hustle

Not your average trail race, the Headlamp Hustle will take place on Friday, May 20th. Runners line for a 7:30 p.m. start and the race features 5K and 10K distances over beautiful and challenging terrain. The post-race celebration with music, a bonfire, food and Lake Louie beer is well worth the effort.

The promise of a cold beer and a bonfire has inspired more than one runner. It something to keep in your sights as you navigate through beautifully restored prairie, as you wind through oak and hickory woods, and as you hammer up steep rocky slopes to a majestic ridgeline and back down again.

Fontana Sports Headlamp Hustle and the Ice Age National Scenic Trail

The Headlamp Hustle course is set on a particularly stunning Table Bluff segment of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.  The spectacular nature of this segment is due in part to the efforts of the Swamplovers Foundation, who owns and manages a portion of land which the Trail crosses and on which the event will be held.

What is also noteworthy about the Headlamp Hustle, beyond terrain and cold beverages, is that Fontana Sports, the host for this event, is donating a significant portion of the entrance fee to the Ice Age Trail Alliance for on-going trail programs. Fontana Sports has a longstanding close relationship with this organization having partnered on many past events.

The Ice Age Trail Alliance is a volunteer-and member-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to create, support and protect a thousand-mile footpath tracing Ice Age formations across Wisconsin — the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.

The Hutchinson’s who own Fontana Sports have had many great adventures, day hikes, and winter explorations on the Ice Age Trail. According to Elizabeth Ganser, Operations Manager at Fontana and event organizer: “We want to work to raise money for non-profit organizations we believe in and we find the IATA to be incredibly important for encouraging people to get outside and appreciate the outdoors; as well as the work they do to protect and conserve Wisconsin lands.”

Cost for the race is $45.00/person if registered by May 1st, $50 per person after that date.

Cost includes $10.00 donation to the IATA, t-shirt (first 100 registrants), race bib, professional RFID timing, post-race beer, snacks, and festivities.

Pre-registration is required.  To register go to http://www.active.com/cross-plains-wi/running/distance-running-races/3rd-annual-headlamp-hustle-2016?int.

Registration closes Thursday, May 19th.
