Field Operations Coordinator
Alaina is dedicated to and accountable for trail stewardship, construction, and outreach and engagement activities in the Trail Program area.
Alaina began her tenure as a full-time employee with the Alliance in 2019, after a 9-month stint as Trail Program intern (Trails Operation Assistant) in 2018. As an AmeriCorps alum, her prior experience leading conservation crews doing trail building and maintenance made her a natural fit for the work she currently does for the Alliance which includes: Seasonal Trail Crew support including site logistics, personnel, tool, equipment and base camp management; coordinating work assignments and providing quality control oversight. She also assists with the planning and executing Mobile Skills Crew events where her significant rock work experience allows her to lead teams of volunteers as they build stone steps and retaining walls.
Alaina’s love of trail work was solidified in the deep Northern Maine woods, building 30+ stone step staircases for months at a time. Her appreciation only grew stronger once she moved to Montana and was given the opportunity to work in some of our nation’s most wild places. Alaina’s favorite tool is a pick mattock and she is a sucker for grunt work.
Her favorite segment is the new Old Railroad Segment in Langlade County. She spent many hours planning, prepping and building the Trail there in 2018. She finds the autumn and winter seasons on that stretch of the Ice Age Trail truly magical.
