Starlight Hike – Washington/Oz Co Chapter

July 15, 2023 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Starlight Hike

Pike Lake Segment

Join us for a nearly moonless and dark evening hike on the Pike Lake Segment of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.  The hike will visit the Astronomy Trail with a scale representation of the solar system.  After the hike, if conditions permit, the Northern Cross Science Foundation will have telescopes set up for viewing.

LOCATION: Nature Trail Parking Lot, Powder Hill Road, Pike Lake Unit, Kettle Moraine State Forest, east of Hartford. Click here for driving directions. Watch for yellow “Ice Age Trail Event” signs.

HIKE DESCRIPTION: We will follow the blue trail northeast to the Astronomy Trail, and then after completing our solar system tour, continue on the blue trail across Powder Hill Road.  We will then loop back to the parking lot using the Ice Age Trail.  After returning to the parking lot, we will hike the short distance to the family campground where the telescopes will be set up.  The total hike distance will be about 3 miles.

WHAT TO BRING: Wear comfortable hiking boots and dress appropriately for the weather. Bring water and a light source (flashlight or headlamp) for everyone in your group.

HIKE LEADER: TBD
