Dane County Brush Clearing, Montrose Segment
December 16 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
We will remove invasive trees, cutting and piling buckthorn and honeysuckle lining the bike path. A small copse lies near the farm land, and invasives have sprouted all along the bike path. The work site is within roughly 220 feet on either side of the junction of the Ice Age Trail with the Badger State Trail. Park off pavement along the west branch of Hwy A near its junction with Hwy 69 (map/directions). You will spot an informational marker for the Sugar River watershed and prairie nearby. If you can bring herbicide and spray bottles for stump treatment or a chainsaw, please let the leader know in advance.
Much of the work will be done with hand tools, but there will be some work for trained chain sawyers with proper PPE. Loppers and nippers will be on hand for your use if the leader knows in advance.
If we have snow cover for burning brush piles, wear old clothing made of natural fibers. Bring something to cook for lunch! Some treats will be available for you as well.
