Dane County Oak Savanna Restoration -Indian Lake

October 4 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

This Sunday we will work cutting/treating/piling invasive brush at Indian Lake County Park.  Specifically this week we will be continuing removal of invasive brush and trees form a large south-facing slope to restore native oak savanna habitat.  We need help cutting and piling brush, and treating the cut stumps.  Certified sawyers please bring a chainsaw and PPE. (an extra sharp chain is also advisable as parts of the slope are quite rocky)  There will be plenty of hand work for others.

Bring work gloves, a face mask if you are using one, a sun hat, long-sleeve shirt, and plenty of water and food.  We do observe “social distancing” etiquette.

The forecast is for pleasant cooler weather this weekend, but still bring plenty of water.

MEET: Sunday at 9:00 AM at Indian Lake County Park.  The park is located northwest of Madison.  Take Highway 12 west from Middleton, then take Highway 19 west from Highway 12.

Turn left at the main entrance, following the park road across the valley.  Turn left by the new park shelter.  We will be driving in to the work site on an access lane behind the shelter.

Please let me know if you can help on on Sunday so I can be sure to have enough tools.

Please note that all Ice Age Trail volunteers will be covered under the National Park Service Volunteers-in-Parks program protections only if they fill out and sign a new Volunteer Agreement form.  See the message from IATA Executive Director, Mike Wollmer, below explaining this new procedure with links to several documents to read and the filled Volunteer Agreement form to be submitted to the Park Service electronically.  If you have not already done so, please fill out and submit the form to Dan Watson at the Park Service before participating in our workdays.

Thanks for your help and Happy Autumn!
