Dane County Prairie Restoration -Mammoth Back
November 14 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
This Saturday, November 14th we will continue rescuing the good quality goat prairie remnant on Mammoth’s Back hill in the new preserve along Black Earth Creek acquired by the Ice Age Trail Alliance early this year. We will continue to clear the buckthorn and honeysuckle and some trees along the southern edge of the hill from where we left off two weeks ago and expand our selective clearing of part of the hillside. We will continue this work to rescue the prairie remnant through the winter.
Come and help on Saturday and enjoy the brisk Autumn weather devoid of biting insects!
Bring work gloves, a face mask, a sun hat, and plenty of water and food. We do observe “social distancing” etiquette. If you have a brush cutter or chain saw please bring it.
MEET: Saturday at 9:00 AM on the north side of Stage Coach Road just west of the gravel quarry in the Town of Cross Plains.
Please let me know if you can help on Saturday so I can be sure to have enough herbicide and tools.
Please note that all Ice Age Trail volunteers will be covered under the National Park Service Volunteers-in-Parks program protections only if they fill out and sign a new Volunteer Agreement form. If you have not already done so, please fill out and submit the form to Dan Watson at the Park Service before participating in our workdays.
Thanks for your help and Happy Autumn!
