Dane County Work Day
September 24, 2020 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
This Saturday we will begin our autumn work of expanding the goat prairie restoration on the west ridge of Center Bluff in the Lodi Marsh State Wildlife and Natural Area by removing invading shrubs, sumac, and trees while enjoying the late summer and early autumn blooming wildflowers. We will also remove honeysuckle and buckthorn from the oak woodland adjacent to the prairie.
Bring your own 5 gallon bucket for collecting ripe invasive seeds along with work gloves, a face mask if you are using one, a sun hat, and plenty of water and food. We do observe “social distancing” etiquette. If you have a brush cutter or chain saw please bring it.
The forecast is for pleasant weather this weekend.
MEET: Saturday at 9:00 AM in the Ice Age Trail parking area (kiosk lot) on Lodi-Springfield Road in the Town of Dane.
Please let me know if you can help on Saturday so I can be sure to have enough herbicide and tools.
Please note that all Ice Age Trail volunteers will be covered under the National Park Service Volunteers-in-Parks program protections only if they fill out and sign a new Volunteer Agreement form. See the message from IATA Executive Director, Mike Wollmer, below explaining this new procedure with links to several documents to read and the filled Volunteer Agreement form to be submitted to the Park Service electronically. If you have not already done so, please fill out and submit the form to Dan Watson at the Park Service before participating in our workdays.
Thanks for your help and Happy Autumn!

While these tasks may feel tedious, it is a necessary part of the process of becoming operational again during a pandemic. I fully support the process NPS has put forward. In view of the unprecedented times we are living in, this is an example of being respectful of you individually and the folks you will be working with.
So, let’s go out and do great things!
