Dane – Montrose Segment, Young’s Prairie

February 16, 2021 @ 9:30 am - 5:00 pm

A small group braved the cold this Sunday and we all managed to stay warm.  The weather moderates for Tuesday, so Gary Werner and I are going back to continue the prairie/savanna expansion. We have been thinning the band of trees between Young’s remnant and the planted prairie and will continue that work.

We are working adjacent to the Ice Age Trail tread.  The hike in is now well packed down.

Winter workdays with snow cover also means we’ll burn slash piles, so wear natural fiber clothing (wool, cotton) for your outer layer. All-day or morning-only volunteers welcome. If staying for the afternoon, be sure to bring some food and drink. It will be possible to heat that food if you like.

Join us if the short notice works for you.  We are meeting at 9:30 am Tuesday where the IAT crosses hwy D.  Parking on the shoulder of hwyD on the west side of the road at the red pin. If you come late, just follow the IAT to just before the orange arrow.
