Dane – Springfield Hill Invasive Tree Removal

January 30, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

This Saturday, January 30, we will have the season finale for the walnut removal project along the north trail corridor at Springfield Hill.  Specifically, this week we will be cutting and piling invasive brush and trees inside the woods edge along the north edge of the big Ag field   We need help cutting and piling brush, and treating the cut stumps.  Certified sawyers please bring a chainsaw and PPE.  There will be plenty of hand work for others.  If you haven’t been there since the December 13th work party or earlier, you won’t recognize this area.  It will be worth coming just to see that.  The westernmost oak opening on one of the moraine humps is now completely released.  We will be working on its neighbor to the east on Saturday.

Bring work gloves, sturdy boots, safety glasses, a face mask if you are using one, long-sleeve shirt, and plenty of water and food.  We do observe “social distancing” etiquette.

There is plenty of snow out there now, so warm, waterproof boots are essential.  Dress in layers appropriate for a cold start and warming weather during the day.  Outer layers should be natural fibers that are less prone to damage from embers from the burn piles.

MEET: Saturday at 9:00 AM at the trailhead parking lot on Ballweg Road (north of US Highway 12).  Springfield Hill is located about 15 miles northwest of Middleton  on USH 12-turn right at Ballweg Road

Morning or all-day volunteers welcome.

RSVP if you can help: Jim Parry: [email protected]

Additional information for first-time volunteers.

Thanks for your help and Happy Winter!
