Dane – Springfield Hill, Oak Room Restoration
March 7 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
We will have a final bonus work party for the season at Springfield Hill to take advantage of the last of the snow cover and burn brush. Specifically, this week we will be cutting and piling invasive brush and trees in the Oak Room area near the east end of the south trail corridor. We need help cutting, piling brush, and treating the cut stumps. Certified sawyers please bring a chainsaw and PPE. There will be plenty of hand work for others.
Bring work gloves, sturdy boots, safety glasses, a face mask if you are using one, long-sleeve shirt, and plenty of water and food. We do observe “social distancing” etiquette.
There is still plenty of snow out there in the woods, so warm, waterproof boots are essential. Dress in layers appropriate for a cold start and warming weather during the day. Outer layers should be natural fibers that are less prone to damage from embers from the burn piles.
MEET: Sunday at 9:00 AM at the green gates at the east end of the old US Highway 12 spur. Springfield Hill is located about 15 miles northwest of Middleton on USH 12-turn right at Ballweg Road. Old Highway 12 is the unsigned 4-way intersection at the bottom of the hill just before you get to the main trailhead parking lot
RSVP Required (so we bring enough tools and can let you know of any weather related or other changes in the plans for the workday): Jim Parry 798-6862 home
