Dane – Table Bluff, Holmes Preserve, Savanna Clearing
March 6 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
This Saturday, March 6th help us continue our ecological restoration work in the Holmes Preserve while complying with the Dane County Health Order prescribing social distancing during out door events. We will continue our restoration of the western woods oak savanna by removing buckthorn, honeysuckle, and other invasive shrubs and trees. Our goal is to clear the one remaining area of the invasive shrubs to transform this entire hillside into an open oak woodland/savanna. We will also remove box elder trees so that we will eventually be able to plant prairie in the open middle section of the hillside.
We will burn slash piles so wear an outer layer of cotton or wool — no synthetic parkas that will burn easily. Sawyers please bring your saws.
MEET: 9:00 AM Saturday in the Ice Age Trail parking lot on Table Bluff Road in the Town of Berry.
Thanks for your help and Happy Winter becoming Spring!
