Marathon County Chapter Fall Color Hike – Dells of the Eau Claire Segment
October 8, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Along a not-to-be-missed segment of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, this Fall Color Hike features rock stairs and bridges built by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) and Pre-Cambrian rhyolite palisades (which means, real cool-looking rock formations) along the rushing Eau Claire River.
Gorgeous hardwoods, their fall colors intensified by the presence of Canada Yew and mature Hemlocks will add to the beauty and wonder when you join the Marathon County Chapter of the Ice Age Trail Alliance for a Fall Colors Hike.
Join us on Saturday, October 8, 2016. We’ll be departing from the beach parking lot in the Dells of the Eau Claire County Park at 10:00 a.m.
Hike length is up to 2.5 miles each way.
This segment of the Ice Age Trail crosses the 45th parallel (half way between the Equator and the North Pole) between the park and its endpoint near County Highway Z.
Hikers who prefer a shorter distance will be offered the option to turn back near the half way point.
A shuttle will also be available at the far end of the segment for hikers who prefer to hike only in a single direction.
