Ice Age Trail Days
August 8 - August 12
Light the Candles!
1000 miles. 60 years. Endless wonder.
The Ice Age Trail Alliance has been working since 1958 to create one of the premier outdoor experiences in the country – the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, a thousand-mile footpath tracing Ice Age formations across Wisconsin.
Join supporters and staff as we celebrate 60 years of building, stewarding, protecting, and promoting the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. Celebrate with us at Ice Age Trail Days in Cross Plains, WI which is both the headquarters of the Alliance and a designated Ice Age Trail Community.
Ice Age Trail Days Activities:
Trailbuilding. Wednesday, August 8th through Sunday, August 12th.
This Mobile Skills Crew event will be a remarkable effort to fill in the gaps across Dane County. Happily, new tread will eliminate a mile-long road walk and sandstone outcroppings will provide big views of the Driftless region. This wonderfully wooded segment, located at the edge of the Village of Cross Plains, will wind its way up and down the hillside, providing a refreshing saunter for community members of all ages.
No previous experience is necessary to participate in this new construction party involving tread, signage, stonework and trail stewardship zones. Like all Mobile Skills Crew projects, training is provided by certified crew leaders and there will be roles for all ages and abilities. Everyone is welcome to participate!
Community Dinner and Partner Exhibits. Friday, August 10th.
The Village of Cross Plains is hosting a community dinner at Zander Park in downtown Cross Plains. In keeping with the community theme, the Alliance is partnering with local farmers and businesses to host a farm-to-table dinner, live music, refreshments and of course, birthday cake. On Friday afternoon, stop by Zander Park to learn more about the Ice Age National Scenic Trail and visit partner exhibits. Booths will be on display with family-friendly activities and educational information to learn more about the Alliance’s mission. Volunteers, supporters, and Cross Plains community members are invited and welcome to attend.
