Description

With the lovely blanket of snow we have splendid conditions to burn through more of our stockpile of slash piles that we made last fall.  We still have a number of piles to burn and invasive shrubs and trees near them to remove in the Ice Age Trail Alliance’s Holmes Preserve.  Help us do this work next Tuesday, February 7th.
No prior experience is required to do this work, but I need to know who can help so that we have enough tools to use.  We will be applying herbicide and using loppers and saws. We need chain sawyers for this project.  With the bountiful blanket of snow we will burn slash piles.
Please let me know if you can help us with this activity on Tuesday.  I will send confirmations and details of when and where to meet to those of you who can help.

Thanks for your help and Happy Winter!

What to Bring

If you are interested in cutting brush by hand, you should have long pants, a long-sleeve shirt, gloves and sturdy boots. If you have your favorite hearing protection, bring that, or we have foam earplugs to use around power equipment. If there is snow on the ground, we will likely be burning slash piles – please do not wear flammable synthetic outer clothing – wool or cotton clothing as an outer layer is better to avoid embers burning holes in your nice gear. Bring whatever water and food you want for the day. Sunscreen is optional but advised (insect repellent not needed this time of the year)!

RSVP

You must RSVP with the work day organizer (listed below) so we have enough equipment and we can make sure all volunteers for the day have up-to-date information about meeting location.

Volunteer Service Agreement

If you’re joining us for the first time at an event, please complete the fill-able Volunteer Services Agreement Form and email it (along with any questions) to Dan Watson, (Daniel_Watson@nps.gov). You should also complete the form if you don’t have a Volunteer Services Agreement Form on file, or completed one prior to January 2022.

Additional information for first-time volunteers.

Email Updates:

If you are interested in volunteering regularly, request to be added to our email group. Contact Megan Schliesman (schliesfrau@gmail.com) and ask to be added to our Stewardship list.  (Note: Megan cannot answer questions about workdays; she coordinates the list, not workdays.)  Emails sent on the listserv will contain all the details for a workday, and you should contact the listed leader for any given workday with questions.)
