Mammoth Hike Challenge Kickoff – Washington/Oz Co Chapter

October 1 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

We are partnering with the West Bend Library on a hike on the West Bend Segment of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. This event serves as a kickoff for the 2024 Mammoth Hike Challenge, which challenges participants to hike 44 miles in the month of October.  Additionally, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly constructed bridge and boardwalk at the Marth-Strictland trailhead near Highway 33.

LOCATION: Meet at the lower parking lot (near Wells Lake) in Ridge Run Park, off S. University Drive, West Bend. Click here for driving directions. Watch for yellow “Ice Age Trail Event” signs.

HIKE DESCRIPTION: The kid-friendly hike will start from the trailhead sign on the north side of the lower parking lot.  It will head north from the parking lot on the Ice Age Trail, until reaching the new boardwalk and bridge over Silver Creek.  Following the ribbon-cutting, we will cross Highway 33 to Culver’s.  Then after enjoying some custard, we will return the same way for a total distance of about 1.6 miles.

WHAT TO BRING: Wear comfortable hiking boots and dress appropriately for the weather. Bring water and insect repellant.

HIKE LEADER: Lisa DeLaney
