Portage County Chapter Snowshoe Hike
January 21 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Don’t miss the opportunity to experience this peaceful serene place in the middle of winter. Designated in 1983 as a State Natural Area, New Hope Pines features one of the largest and least disturbed northern dry-mesic forests remaining in central Wisconsin and is reminiscent of the vast “pineries” found in this region prior to settlement. The site lies on steep, irregular topography in ground moraine – a legacy of the last glacier.
If you want to enjoy the finest hiking opportunity anywhere, bring friends and family and plan to arrive at the Ice Age Trail parking area on Hwy Z by 1pm on Saturday January 21st. This event is sponsored by the Aldo Leopold Society and the Portage County Chapter of the Ice Age Trail Alliance.
When: Saturday January 21st, 1pm – 3pm
Distance: 3-5 miles total
This event starts at the Hwy Z Ice Age Trail parking area about a 1/2 mile from New Hope Pines. Enjoy a 1/2 mile stroll on the Ice Age Trail to reach New Hope Pines.
Directions to event: From Stevens Point take Hwy 66 east to Hwy Z at Polonia. Follow Hwy Z approximately 9 miles to the Ice Age Trail parking area on the south side of Hwy Z (about 2 miles east of County Highway A, or 1/2 mile west of County Highway T). Google Map Link – click here
