Trailtessa 2023: Be EMPOWERED Habitat Improvement

January 20, 2023 - January 21, 2023

Be EMPOWERED

January 20-21, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Table Bluff Segment, Dane County

Help maintain habitat diversity and ecosystem quality along the popular Table Bluff Segment. Be a part of an all-female crew removing invasive brush and trees from the oak savannas and woodlands to prepare for future broadcast burning. Provided there is adequate snow cover, we’ll burn the brush piles, too. We’re focusing our efforts at the two Alliance-owned preserves along the segment: Swamplovers’ and Holmes.

Attend one day or both. Lunch will be provided. Camping is not available.

Registration limit: 20 women, ages 14 and up

What to bring:

  • Dress for working outside! Winter-appropriate footwear. If snowy/icy, consider snowshoes and/or ice cleat/Yak Tracks for secure footing.
  • Appropriate ‘near-fire’ clothing (no synthetics – leave your fancy coat at home!)
  • Clothing to dress in layers (for warmth and to keep dry)
  • Leather work gloves if you have them (we’ll have gloves if needed).
  • Day pack, sunscreen (snow + sun = sunburn!)
  • A water bottle(s) and/or a thermos filled with a warm beverage

Trailtessa Be EMPOWERED will take place on Friday, January 20 and Saturday, January 21 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm and is a part of a large-scale habitat restoration project taking place at the same time. Click HERE to learn more about the project. We love dogs, but we ask that you not bring them to Trailtessa or restoration events.
