Washington/Ozaukee County Chapter Full Moon Hike
August 26, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
This will be our second Full Moon Hike in 2018 and it should be spectacular, as we explore the Loew Lake segment of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. The total distance of the hike will be 5 miles.
LOCATION: Meet at the parking lot on Hwy K, just north of Monches and the Washington/Waukesha County border. Click here for directions. Watch for yellow “Ice Age Trail Event” signs.
WHAT TO BRING: Wear comfortable hiking boots and dress appropriately for the weather. Bring water, sunscreen, insect repellent and a flashlight or headlamp.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE AREA: Here in the Loew Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest, the Ice Age Trail generally follows the rim of the Oconomowoc River valley winding along the east branch of the Oconomowoc River and 23-acre Loew Lake. The Unit offers a variety of habitats for wildlife. Deer and turkey are abundant. The valley served as a glacial spillway where meltwater flowed south between the Green Bay and Lake Michigan glacial lobes. The Trail drops into the valley through a series of switch backs. Enjoy views of Loew Lake, a widening of the Oconomowoc River as it flows through marsh deposits.
