Washington/Ozaukee County Chapter Meander the Mid-Moraine Hike
April 27 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
Our “Meander the Mid-Moraine” hiking award program challenges hikers to complete the entire 45-mile IANST corridor through Washington County. Download the program brochure [PDF] to learn how you can join the newly minted Meanderers.
Event details: This is the last hike of the four “Meander the Mid-Moraine” hikes we will be offering this year. If you are unable to attend all four hikes, you can complete the hikes you miss on your own and you will still qualify for the “Meander the Mid-Moraine” Hiking Award Program.
On this hike, we’ll traverse through Holy Hill, where hills are fun! We’ll hike up to the top of the kame and sit on a glacial erratic. Following our rest, we will continue through the Holy Hill segment, completing it with a 0.5 mile road walk. The next and final segment is Loew Lake. Here we will hike along the top of an esker and walk on a short road connection. The path along the Oconomowoc River is a highlight of this 8 mile stretch that also includes prairies and woodlands. This hike is rated moderate because of terrain and distance. Please bring a lunch and/or snacks, water, sunscreen, insect repellent and dress appropriately for weather. It can be unpredictable at this time of year.
Location details: We’ll meet up in the IAT parking lot on CTH-Q and shuttle north to Shannon Rd. A Wisconsin state park sticker is required at this parking lot. Shuttles will be arranged at the time of the hike. Click here for directions. Watch for yellow “Ice Age Trail Event” signs.
