Washington/Ozaukee County Chapter Meander the Mid-Moraine Hike
April 6, 2019 @ 11:00 am
“Meander the Mid-Moraine” Hiking Award Program
Our “Meander the Mid-Moraine” hiking award program challenges hikers to complete the entire 45-mile IANST corridor through Washington County. Download the program brochure [PDF] to learn how you can join the newly minted Meanderers.
Event details: This is the first hike of the four “Meander the Mid-Moraine” hikes we will be offering this year. If you are unable to attend all four hikes, you can complete the hikes you miss on your own and you will still qualify for the “Meander the Mid-Moraine” Hiking Award Program.
We will start from the New Fane parking lot at East Kettle Moraine Drive and hike south to Hwy D in West Bend. We will traverse through the Milwaukee River and Kewaskum segments. These two segments are the southern tip of the Northern Kettle Moraine State Forest. The trail will take us up the side of Sunburst Ski Hill and through the Otten Preserve. The hike will include a connecting road walk of 2.2 miles. The total distance for the hike will be 12.7 miles.
Wear comfortable hiking boots and dress appropriately for the weather. Be sure to bring water and a snack/lunch, as there will be several rest stops along the way, and this hike will take a few hours.
Location details: We will meet at the roadside of CTH-D and shuttle to the New Fane parking lot. Parking at the New Fane parking lot requires a daily or annual DNR park pass. Shuttles will be arranged at the time of the hike. Click here for directions. Watch for yellow “Ice Age Trail Event” signs.
