Washington/Ozaukee County Chapter Annual Meeting and Hike
January 6 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Our program will feature thousand mile hiker, Anthony Salazar. Anthony is a Marine Corp veteran who started through hiking last spring and switched to section hiking after running into challenges. Check out his blog.
We will then take a break for a potluck chili buffet. If you’d like, bring your favorite pot of chili, a side dish, or dessert. Contact Judy (firstname.lastname@example.org), to let her know what you’re bringing.
A business meeting will follow with staff members from the Ice Age Trail Alliance providing statewide updates. We will review 2017, discuss plans for 2018, and elect officers.
The day will conclude with a hike on Camp Silver Brook and Ice Age trails.
Everyone is welcome.
LOCATION: JoAnn Mann Lodge at Camp Silver Brook. Click here for driving directions. Enter the camp at Decorah Road and University Drive in West Bend and follow the yellow “Ice Age Trail Event” signs.
WHAT TO BRING: Wear comfortable hiking boots and dress appropriately for the hike after the meeting, if you are interested.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE AREA: From its starting point on Paradise Drive the West Bend Segment of the Ice Age Trail meanders north and soon intersects with a short white-blazed loop that bubbles off to the east of the main segment. The segment bends west and enters the heavily wooded property of the Girls Scouts’ Camp Silver Brook at the south end of Lucas Lake. It continues past an esker and then drops to a marshy area with a bridge over Silver Creek, which flows northward from Paradise Valley Lake to Lucas Lake.
