As you hike the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, you can earn fun hiking patches from most Ice Age Trail Alliance chapters.
Patches are not only motivating, but a great way to show off your hiking achievements.

Become a Traprock Trekker

Hike the Ice Age Trail segments of Polk and Burnett counties where the Trail travels along hilly and forested moraines. Start your hike at the Western Terminus overlooking the St. Croix River. Earn a Certificate of Completion, a patch, a complementary lunch at Cafe Wren in Luck, WI, and memories to last a lifetime!

Become a Superior Lobetrotter

Challenge yourself to the 53.5 miles of Ice Age Trail winding through Barron, Washburn, Burnett, and Rusk counties. Enjoy peaceful Northwoods solitude. Hear loons, spot a heron rookery, and marvel at beaver dams.

Chip Off the Old Moraine

The glacier’s Chippewa Lobe formed the county’s prominent glacial features, including the Chippewa Moraine, a terminal moraine rising above the surrounding cultivated plains. As a result, hikes through Chippewa County’s hummocky landscape features kettle lakes, ice-walled lake plains, sizeable erratics, and dramatic views.

Meandering the Moraines

Travel hummocky terrain as you follow the Ice Age Trail’s winding route through Portage and Waupaca Counties. Walk alongside a drumlin swarm, by kettle lakes, and some of the largest erratics found along the Trail.

Become a Kettle Trekker

Explore Walworth and Jefferson counties with a saunter through the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. This region features woodlands populated by white, black, and bur oak, oak savannas, prairies, lakes, eskers, and kettles. Relish Bald Bluff’s panoramic view showcasing a thriving prairie and rolling landscape to the west.

Walk the Wauk

View kettles, erratics, eskers, drained lake plains, drumlins, and kames as you meander across Waukesha County. Travel through oak forests, wet and dry prairies, and alongside the Oconomowoc, Bark, and Scuppernong Rivers. Browse the shops and refuel in the restaurants of Hartland and Delafield, both Trail Communities.

Meander the Mid-Moraine

Wildlife. Wildflowers. Solitude. Pristine glacial topography. Scenic panoramas. Awe-inspiring beauty. Located along the intersection of the Green Bay and Lake Michigan Lobes of the Wisconsin Glaciation of the last Ice Age, the Washington County mid-moraine segments provide excellent views of kettles, moraines, kames, eskers, and drumlins.

Hall of Kamers

Hike the area that inspired Ray Zillmer’s Ice Age Trail idea. The Northern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest highlights kettles, kames, and eskers. Wander across its rolling, wooded hills dotted with serene lakes. Plan ahead to arrange an overnight in one of the backpacking shelters along the route as you explore Fond du Lac and Sheboygan counties.

Lakeshore Wanderer

Wander through parts of Door, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, and Sheboygan counties while exploring their showcase segments. Travel undulating grassland, wooded ridges, and ancient and current shoreline of Lake Michigan. You’ll walk beneath towering white cedars and beside creeks and rivers. And, enjoy a covered bridge’s cozy charm. In all, you’ll hike nearly 30 miles of Trail winding through the Lakeshore Chapter’s area.

Ahnapee Tracker

Hike the 28+ miles of the Ahnapee State Trail comprising the Kewaunee River and Forestville segments, and a portion of the Sturgeon Bay Segment. This multiuse trail travels through an area that is part of the Great Wisconsin Birding and Nature Trail. Bring your binoculars and add to your birding life list!
