GUEST INTRODUCTION:
We are very excited that Riley Dupee, Field Operations Specialist at the Alliance, has offered to attend our Feb. 15th chapter meeting. Riley participates in Trail construction and maintenance projects as well as land stewardship projects.
Riley works collaboratively with staff, volunteers, government agencies, and private partners to increase the Alliance’s capacity to execute on-the-ground construction and maintenance of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. As part of that
work, she provides leadership and training for volunteers and local chapters, helps coordinate local and statewide trail improvement projects (such as trail signage upgrades, tread improvements, trail structure construction and
maintenance, and invasive species control), and oversees and manages the Alliance’s tool and equipment inventory.
Riley also works closely with the Land program, expanding its stewardship capacity, helping to maintain Alliance-owned preserves, leading Habitat Management events and participating in property monitoring.
Her overview of what is coming up on the statewide level will be of much interest, and a great way to begin the new year! Welcome, Riley!

ADJOURNMENT/SOCIAL TIME
We meet on the third Thursday every month in the Trecker Lodge at Lapham Peak. Our meetings are free and open to the public. Join us!
NOTE > All events at Lapham Peak require a State Park Sticker or Day Pass.
The Hartland Walking Club and the Hartland Recreation Department, hope to see you at the Full Moon Hike!
Beginning at Nixon Park‘s Warming Shed, hikers will head southeast by light of the full moon using the trails surrounding Penbrook Park. Those interested in extending their hike may continue on through the Maple Wayside portion of the IAT. Bring flashlights and dress appropriately for the weather. All are welcome. Hot chocolate will be available.
Email comments or questions to either of your hike leaders, Jeff and Mark.
Come get dirty with us at our Chapter Ice Age Trail Volunteer Fair!
There are numerous ways to help maintain and improve the Waukesha/Milwaukee Co. Chapter’s portion of the Ice Age Trail. Learn about the many different volunteer opportunities available to you:
This will be a great chance to meet fellow hikers, IAT volunteers as well as IAT Alliance staff members. Enjoy Brewhaus appetizers and drinks with likeminded folks who love giving back to our very own National Scenic Trail. You will also be able to participate in a free raffle for Ice Age Trail merchandise!
Join us on a Tyke Hike to explore Wisconsin’s own Ice Age National Scenic Trail! We will explore a tyke-sized portion of the Lapham Peak Segment in Waukesha County. Families with children of all ages should attend!
These hikes give kids the opportunity to explore, discover and participate in natural play. Most hikes include a picture book story and educational materials as well as certificates for children. In addition, service opportunities may be included. They last approximately 1-2 hours and can cover up to 1.5 miles. Tyke Hikes are led by Peter Dargatz, a forest kindergarten teacher and Ice Age Trail volunteer.
We will hike for approximately 45 minutes and then return. There will be occasional stops for play and exploration along the way. Hikers should dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable shoes/hiking boots. Most importantly, bring water.
This hike will start out at the Lapham Peak Observation Tower near Delafield, WI.
Questions? Peter will answer them for you.
