Each year, volunteers from throughout the upper Midwest gather at events across Wisconsin to build the Ice Age Trail, spend some time outside and connect with each other. We’d love to have you join us.
The goal of these events, all part of our Mobile Skills Crew Program, is to build a trailwide group of volunteers who are trained in advanced trail construction and crew leadership techniques. These volunteers, in turn, apply their knowledge and experience to smaller-scale, local trail building projects. It all results in more Ice Age Trail miles on the ground every year.
What to Expect at a Project
At Mobile Skills Crew events, volunteers that have been certified in crew leadership teach their fellow volunteers trail construction and maintenance techniques. Project goals include working safely, having fun and building premier Trail. We provide three meals a day and a place to pitch your tent free of charge for volunteers.
The activities we do at each project vary depending on the Trail segment’s needs. Sometimes we’ll be building new Ice Age Trail. Other times we improve existing Trail, upgrade signage or build a bridge or boardwalk. Every project needs volunteers for food preparation, community outreach, publicity, entertainment and administration.
Everyone is Welcome
You don’t need previous trail building experience to participate. And you are welcome to lend a hand for whatever amount of time your schedule allows; projects are usually Tuesday through Sunday.
