Winter Hikes and More this December!

Our volunteer chapters are hosting winter hikes and snowshoeing excursions all month long!

Revel in the restful quiet of a snow-covered landscape. Feel the crunch of snow under foot, or snowshoe. Take advantage of leaf-off season to admire expansive landscapes of glacial features.

Hike under the full moon on the winter solstice, go for a festive jaunt with Santa, explore your favorite Segments of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail transformed into a winter wonderland.

Snowshoe or Hike the Holy Hill Segment with the Washington/Ozaukee County Chapter

Saturday, December 11

10 am – 12 pm

Strap on your snowshoes or throw on your hiking boots and join the Washington/Ozaukee County Chapter for a 3.2 mile round-trip hike on the Holy Hill Segment. Along this stretch of Trail, forest breaks offer glimpses of Holy Hill’s kame and the Basilica on top of it.

Hike and Holiday Gathering with the Waukesha/Milwaukee County Chapter

Saturday, December 11

4 pm – 9 pm

Hike through winter prairie and woodland on the Lapham Peak Segment. Warm up afterwards with good company, dinner, and drinks round a bonfire. Please RSVP ahead of time for this event.

Hike in the Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest with the Walworth/Jefferson Chapter

Explore the beauty of the Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest. Enjoy views of the rolling prairie landscape and world-class glacial features. Note that a current state park pass is required to park at the meeting location.

Tyke Hike with Santa and the Lodi Valley Chapter

10 am – 11 am

Bring the family for a fun winter hike followed up with cookies and cocoa… and a visit from Santa!

Full Moon Solstice Snowshoe Hike with the Indianhead Chapter

Saturday, December 18

5 pm – 7 pm

Snowshoe 2.5 – 3 miles on the St. Croix Falls Segment. Explore a landscape of exposed rock outcroppings, basalt knobs and surface bedrock under the light of the full moon.

Full Moon Hike with Santa and the Lodi Valley Chapter

Saturday, December 18

7 pm – 8:30 pm

Stroll through prairie and small woods on a moonlit hike with Santa. Treat yourself to cocoa and candy canes.
