Please join us as we explore the Grandfather Falls Segment. The fall colors should be peaking at this time. View the unique boulders and sculptured rock formations cause by thousands of years of cascading water at Grandfather Falls Dam – the largest waterfall on the Wisconsin river, with a total drop of 89 feet, and listen to the roar of the water over the rock formations as you traverse along the Wisconsin River.
LOCATION: Meet at the Camp New Wood County Park parking area on Hwy 107, at the south end of the segment. Watch for yellow “Ice Age Trail Event” signs.
HIKE DESCRIPTION: We will hike approximately 3-miles along the Wisconsin River, with an option of hiking another out and back section through the school forest if attendees want to go farther.
WHAT TO BRING: Wear comfortable hiking boots and dress appropriately for the weather. Bring water and insect repellant.

An Ice Age Trail Community is a place where Ice Age Trail enthusiasts enjoy healthy walks, visit local businesses and take part in events. These communities work hand-in-hand with the Ice Age Trail Alliance to advance the Ice Age Trail, promote the qualities that make each place unique, and provide pathways to community health and well-being. Together, the Ice Age Trail Alliance and Trail Communities promote the unique qualities that make the Trail, and the community it travels through, a meaningful destination. Merrill is the 17th Ice Age Trail Community.
