Waukesha/Milwaukee Chapter – Hartland Walking Club – Winter Hike

January 14, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us for a winter night hike on the beautiful Hartland Segment of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail!

The Hike:

We will hike from Nixon parks new ice-skating rink and head south for an approximately 2.5 hour, four mile out and back hike. The full hike begins by walking about one mile on a paved trail. We will then traverse through a half mile along the snowy Hartland Marsh Trail, which boasts an impressive new boardwalk built by Waukesha/Milwaukee Co. Chapter Volunteers. Once through the marsh, the route continues for another half mile on a paved trail to our turn-around point at Highway KE.

Details:

This hike is suitable for hikers of all ability levels. There is very little elevation gain on this route and the biggest challenge will likely be navigating the snowy and icy conditions. Anyone not wishing to hike the full distance can turn back at any time and return to Nixon Park. All hikers are welcome to stop in the newly – renovated warming house for some complementary hot chocolate!

All ages are welcome but kids must be accompanied by an adult. Please dress for the weather and plan to walk through snow and ice. If it’s a clear night, the trail may be lit by and almost – full moon, But we strongly recommend hikers bring a headlamp or flashlight. If the wind chill is below zero or conditions are unsafe we will cancel.

Location:

We will meet at Nixon Park’s new skating rink. Follow the yellow Ice Age Trail event signs.

Contact Information:

This hike will be led by members of Hartland’s Ice Age Trail Community Committee. More information can be found by contacting the Hartland Recreation Dept.
