About:

The Waukesha/Milwaukee County Chapter of the Ice Age Trail Alliance started a new hiking series: Twilight Trail Hikes. These hikes take place on weeknights (moving to weekends in the fall/winter as the twilight hours get earlier with the cooler seasons). The first three summer hikes will be on Monday evenings later in the month and near the full moon. No need to register, just show up!

Notice! There is a topic/theme for each hike. All are welcome to bring information, stories, and trivia to share before, during, and/or after the hike.

Hike:

Come out to hike and enjoy the rather rare upcoming blue moon event! Discussion topic/themes: the blue moon; Stute Springs  >> “Once in a Blue moon” is a phrase commonly used to describe an incredibly rare event, but what does it mean in astronomical terms? Stute Springs was once the Stute family farm. Located in the Southern Kettle Moraine, the Stute’s settled this 180-acre farm beginning in the 1850’s. Check out this link to the Stute Springs and Homestead self-guided tour.

We will do a loop trail hiking west on the IAT to CTH Z; follow the IAT to Emma Carlin trailhead; go south on CTH Z to the Stute Springs Trails; follow the Stute Springs Trails east to the Nordic Ski Trail; take the Nordic Ski Trail to the IAT – Stony Ridge Segment; follow the IAT back to the Kettle Moraine State Forest Southern Unit Headquarters’ parking lot.

Details:

This hike is 3+ miles, with a difficulty rating of medium. Remember to dress appropriately for the weather, bring water and a flashlight/headlamp. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed and cleaned up after. Please bring water for your dogs as well.

Location:

Enter the KMSF HQ driveway at S91 W39091 STH 59, Eagle, WI, 53119 (on the south side of STH 59) and go over the Wisconsin and Southern RR tracks to get to the parking lot. Look for the IAT event sign as you approach this hike event.
