Status of the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program

The Joint Finance Committee (JFC) voted on the future of the Stewardship Program on Tuesday, June 11th.They adopted Governor Evers’ position of a two-year extension of the program at current funding levels, 33 million each year.

We’re disappointed by this outcome (we were hoping for 10 years reauthorization). However, we recognize the vote could have also cut or eliminated funding, altogether.

Especially noteworthy, and deserving of celebration, are the hundreds of contacts made to elected officials, by Ice Age Trail supporters, like you. The good news is our elected officials now know us better, as a force to reckon with. Together we have a real chance to shape the future of conservation funding, as it evolves in the next two years. We’ll continue to build on the strong foundation we’ve established.

Thank you for the way you rallied around this effort.
